I need to write

I need to write.

I have a blog. This you know for your are here reading it. I have become painfully aware that blogging sort of haunts me. An undone task. It cries for my attention in the midst of a busy schedule. OK. So the schedule isn't as busy as it could be. And, blogging could be accomplished if the choice was made. Of course, the choice was made, I just did not choose to blog.

I think is was American Idol. I did not get into the show intentionally. Having my desk in the living room means I am exposed to the ever constant television. And one evening, in the midst of trying to write something I got hooked. "That was truly awful," Simon said. I just had to look. Since then I have been waiting for Bucky to exit and this week he did. Do you care? He did, or maybe he didn't. He said he saw it coming. His twin brother will try next year.

I need to write. I just don't like to that much. I also need to read, which I don't like that much either. I would rather watch a story than read one. A good movie will always get my attention. Books, they are just slow motion stories to me. Takes weeks to get the through what I could do in an hour or two. Some movies take a few more, like Lord of The Rings. That's about nine hours of movie, but it's a whole lot more than nine hours of reading. It is for me anyway.

None the less, I need to read and write. I keep hearing that if I want to get better at writing, that's how you pay your dues. Read and write. I made a new wallpaper for my laptop. It is a quote from Frank Portman. He was highlighted in Writer's Digest magazine this month on page 17 under "The Highly Successful Habits of Debut authors." He was asked what advice he would give. He simply said, "Just start typing already." That does capture the heart of the matter doesn't it. Eric Maisel, in the Novel and Short Story Writer's Market, was quoted as saying, "Six pages a day is a novel in 2 months."

I need to write because in 2002 I asked God for direction in my life. His answer? Write.

"Why," I asked.

He simply said, "Write."

"Write what," I asked.

He simply said, "Write."

So there you have it. I need to write. God said so.

Till next time

Eternity
